Songs About The Weather
Armstrong

EXCLUSIVE!  Aztec Camera/Roddy Frame/Pearlfishers fans alert!  This gem contains 12 gorgeous songs accompanied by glorious acoustic guitar, keys and strings by one of the best songwriters you've never heard of!  Armstrong is based around singer/songwriter Julian Pitt.  Originally a three/four piece band from Newport in South Wales UK. The band (with Pitt as singer/songwriter) appeared in the New Musical Express top ten best unsigned band showcase during the late 90's.  They split as a band soon afterwards and it wasn't until 2007 that Julian decided to resume releasing Armstrong songs. A new album ("Under Blue Skies" - see below for a SWEET deal we've got for you) was recorded and produced by ex-60ft Doll Mike Cole.  "One of the most satisfying and melodic albums in recent memory and presents Pitt as the new unheralded prince of pastoral pop. With a voice that lilts and soars like Roddy Frame or The Pearlfisher's David Scott, he is truly a splendid find." - CaughtInTheCarousel.com  "Worldly, great, dramatic, orchestrated pop songs suffused with the love of The Walker Brothers and The Beach Boys." Adam Walton/BBC Radio  "Can Pop music get any better than this? Armstrong has put together what will easily be one of '09’s best pop albums, a collection of perfect heavenly pop songs that would make the ideal soundtrack for the summer!  Whether it’s laying in the tall grass on a sunny afternoon and 'Sunshine Feeling' filling the air or maybe sitting on the edge of the dock, with your feet dangling in the warm, shimmering water listening to 'Picture Of The Bay'.  Perhaps walking in the warm 'Summer Rain' is more your cup of tea and these tunes are certainly ones you will want to absorb.  Pop has not sounded like this in years, bringing back the fond memories of early Aztec Camera or The Pale Fountains, or if you go back further Chad and Jeremy. There are also traces of the Trash Can Sinatras, The Pearlfishers, Prefab Sprout, Lloyd Cole, Swan Dive, The Dream Academy, The Zombies, The Searchers, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, and more - what a blend of influences!" - Wally Salem  COMES WITH A FREE COPY OF ARMSTRONG'S FIRST CD - "UNDER BLUE SKIES"!!!!  GREAT!!!!

The Miserable Rich - "Twelve Ways To Count + bonus disc"
On their stunning debut, The Miserable Rich are sweetly, but not too cloyingly, twee.  "With gentle vocals over chamber strings, they brandish an innocent style of country-tinged chamber folk better suited to the balmy evenings of summer than the long, cold nights of winter but this impressive debut should warm your heart nonetheless.  The gentle strums of tracks such as 'The Knife Thrower's Hand' recall delicate sea shanties and carny tales that could rub shoulders with The Decemberists in the right kind of festival marquee.  The result is that this record draws you in slowly, overcoming first impressions that it lacks strength or depth to give you a gentle smile from the corner of the room that you just can't ignore. 'Monkey' manages to sound both Americana-tinged and resolutely English, a half-forgotten village green fete with tea and cakes not too far away." - Jenni Cole  "Chamber pop folk that has dismissed the beardy woollen jersey cliché to instead don a fine layer of cashmere before entering a dusky world full of tales of boatmen, matinees, teenage crushes and waiting for pay day.  Both deft and enchanting with their ability to embrace the pastoral flavours of trad folk and some winningly playful pop hooks, this has tear-jerkers and caustic wit in equally charismatic measure.  It's James De Malplaquet's voice, a clarion call that sounds uncannily similar to early 70's troubadour Colin Blunstone, that really endears." - BBC.co.uk  "Recorded in the front room of De Malplaquet’s Brighton home, their striking, fully fledged debut immediately sets them apart. Five in number, they play acoustic chamber pop, everything coming decorously draped with the rather mournful accompaniment of cello and violin. Beyond that, though, it’s De Malplaquet’s warm, hazy voice coupled with the songs’ ruminative aspect that impress most, from tales of drunks and bonnie barmaids to such beautifully tender moments as 'Boat Song' and 'The Knife Thrower’s Hand'. A handsome, original start!" - Q Magazine   COMNES WITH EXCLUSIVE BONUS DISC OF COVER VERSIONS DONE MISERABLE RICH-STYLE!  TRACK LISTING: "GOLEN BROWN" (The Stranglers), "GIGANTIC" (The Pixies), "SHADES" (Iggy Pop), AND "SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS) (Eurythmics)!  GREAT!!!! Brad Senne - "The Shapes That Shift Us"
When we first met Brad it was via his Beight project which we liked a whole bunch.  He's back with a solo effort that, while a bit more quiet, with its gorgeous, bare minimum accompaniment, perfectly fits our "Sunday Morning Pop" playlist with its Elliott Smith-like whispy-ness throughout!  "Sometimes, it seems like a piece (or style) of music can define the mood of a situation: the same set of curves, at the same speed, in the same car, can feel a lot different depending on whether you're playing.  Not to mention where the volume's set.  Sometimes, a well-timed piece of music can even rudder a situation - perhaps a fading party resurrected by a well-queued raucous piano rock song?  This is precisely not this kind of music - it's the converse.  It's a perfect fit for certain times when the mood is already set, and you're just looking for the right piece of music to go along with that mood.  It's acoustic, but sometimes it's driving.  It's folk, but sometimes it's symphonic.  It's happiness, but sometimes it's longing.  'Drift Gently' makes me think of curling up in a big comfortable chair, with a piping hot cup of tea and a perfect blanket. In the undertones of Senne's guitar, I can hear the corners of my lips curl up into a barely-perceptible smile as I raise my mug and the smell of jasmine steam washes over my face. If I owned a convertible, I think I'd want to listen to 'Dance Till Dawn' with the top down on a shoreline road somewhere.  And if a family vacation ever finds us renting a clapboard-sided beach house in a tiny ocean town somewhere, I hope there's a CD player so I can play 'Caroline to Maine'." - DaveRea.com  "A talented songwriter whose richly textured acoustic ballads might someday work their way into space alongside Elliott Smith’s early recordings”. - Splendid Magazine  EXCELLENT!!! Nick Piunti - "Nick Piunti"
Let's get one thing straight from the start.  In case you haven't figured it out by now, we've become HUGE Nick Piunti fans here at KK!  How the heck did we miss this guy fo so long?  Somewhere back in the 70's, 12 years old and playing in his first rock band, Nick quickly realized the combination of electric guitars, crashing drums and screaming girls was about all anyone needed in this world.  Now an adult with two screaming girls of his own, his passion for creating three minute power pop classics, like the ones he's currently churning out for The Respectables, certainly shined through on his self titled release.  Recorded with veteran producer-engineer Pete Bankert and featuring the white hot guitar work of Joey Gaydos, his 2002 solo debut marries the pop sensibilities of his songs with a straight ahead rock and roll approach.  The strength of the songs on this is what distinguishes this from so many independent releases. While covering familiar ground, Nick's unique voice brings a new perspective to the world of guitar pop rock.  Just like the brilliant gems he's released with The Respectables, this one's chock full of Replacements-styled, crunchy guitar-filled ones!  GREAT!!!!
